Today I saw on the workbench of Modelltrans two almost finished Master modelles which are soon will be casted:
Sherman BARV and Sherman ARV Mk. II
Hopefully to be released soon! (Both 1/72)

This afternoon I received a package from T&T of Belgium (thanks Philip, you da man!) which included a Modelltrans M4a4 ARV mk1 (MT72060). What a great looking kit! Moulding is extremely well done and almost completely free of bubbles (one weak area on the interior around the main crew hatch). I notice on the instruction sheet that MR ModellBau "supported" the production of the kit. This is an upgrade kit for the ESCI/Italieri M4a1 kit - it comes with every thing but the bogey wheels, the bogey trucks and the tracks.
Lot of extra gear is included and, although it is not mentioned in the instructions, the booms and cables (in copper wire) and chains (scale metal chain)for a field crane are in the box.
Compared with the MR Models Sherman V and VC, the moulding of the lower hull (required due to the extra length of the M4a4 hull) is more sturdy and extact. With the MR Sherman Vs that I have the lower hull does not hold together very well - lots of splitting and cracking of the thin Resin. I would say the texture of the upper hull of the Modelltrans kit is less well developed than the MR, which is superb. This is possibly due to a different type of resin (Modelltrans has a glossy finish to the resin, MR is matt).
Anyone know of a good reference for the Sherman ARV Mark I?
Oh and by the way, on the instruction sheet the bogey trucks are installed backwards - idlers toward the front of the vehicle rather than the rear. I have seen occasional photos of field repaired Shermans with one truck reversed but never the whole set.
A big "thumbs up" to Peter-Paul Pryzbylka of Modelltrans for putting out such a great and unusual kit!
